Founded in June 1991, the Haitian Church of the Nazarene “Friends of the Humble started its first worships with less than 50 members. Over the years, the implementation of an evangelism program has paid off. Now, the congregation meets with more than 250 members, making it one of the largest Haitian churches in the Greater Boston area. The core ministries of the church are : Sunday School, ….etc. As the congregation grows at a very fast pace, we have observed that besides the spiritual needs, our parishioners were struggling with a lot of social issues including hunger, lack of education, language barriers, health disparities, etc. This situation has given birth in 1996 to our compassionate ministry. We started with a food pantry; then, later we implemented other services such as: health education, English classes, After School, etc. Currently we provide services to thousands of families and particularly to displaced Haitians families fleeing their country in the aftermath of the earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010.
As church leaders, we explore the root causes of factors that are jeopardizing the health and welfare of our congregations, and take a vested interest in building the capacity of our community through outreach and education. We strongly embrace the idea of reaching out and addressing the needs of the whole individual in a culturally complete and sensitive way. Our aim is to promote the spiritual growth, the health, and welfare of our community. This is how we express the love of Christ within our communities.
